Individual’s - Body, Soul and mind = COMPLETENESS

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers” 3 John 1:2

LotuMoui is a unique programme because it looks at delivering health messages/programmes in a biblical framework. This alone has played a big role in getting support and the buy-in from Church Leaders. The summit is also a great opportunity for the LotuMoui community to celebrate and showcase their learning’s and great achievements to date.

The theme of the summit is “Our Health Our Wealth”

The Summit delegates will be challenged to think about how their families and communities can build a wealth of health—in body, mind and soul, be able to participate, lead healthy living, healthy families and communities in the present and for generations to come.

Aims:

The aims of the summit are:

1) Providing feedback to the community about their LotuMoui programme achievements and challenges in the last three years including;

  • Celebrating the LotuMoui journey to date and
  • Presentation of the LotuMoui programme evaluation findings.

2) To seek the Pacific communities views, input and health needs for planning and development of the LotuMoui Programme beyond 2010.

Who is the Target Audience?

The target audience is up to 400 participants from various Pacific Churches, faith and religious leaders in the South Auckland area who are interested in improving the health and wellness of their congregation.

 Health coordinators play a big role and will be delivering and implementing healthy lifestyle programmes and practices within their Churches. Their biggest support is their church health committee group which continues to be supported by church ministers/leaders.

 Youth within each parish are also included and will be represented on this day where specific workshops will be designed for them.

The Symposium is open to all Pacific ethnic groups and all denominations.

Key note speakers from Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs.

The launch of the Pacific Health & Disability Plan - ‘Ala Moui’.

Definition of LotuMoui

'Lotu' means "church" or "prayer" in most Pacific languages, while "Moui" is a Tongan and Niuean term that generally means good health that encompasses mind, body and soul. The 'mind, body, spirit' approach to health is holistic and inclusive. Importantly, it is consistent with Pacific people’s concepts of health and wellbeing.
