Counties Manukau District Health Board (CMDHB) is pleased to provide Pacific churches in the Counties Manukau District with an opportunity to take part in the LotuMoui Games Initiative 2008. Building on the previous successes of the LotuMoui Symposium, this annual event targets the 18,000 + Pacific church leaders, congregation members and families that are part of the 79 churches involved in the LotuMoui programme to participate in the 8 week event.
What is the LotuMoui Games?
Picture the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics with Pacific churches in Counties Manukau! The LotuMoui Games Initiative is based on a similar concept and brings people from the Pacific community together to participate in inter-church activities consisting of:
- Capacity building and training for participating churches
- An opening ceremony
- 8-week inter-church build up of preliminary rounds of sports and fun family games
- Family Games Day Celebration, acknowledgements, prize giving and closing ceremony
The Games initiative is not intended to be only for competitive sporting athletes as its focus is more on everyone being involved and participating in some type of activity.
Aim
The Games Initiative aims to:
- Increase physical activity levels for Pacific peoples in Counties Manukau;
- Create environments that promote and support physical activity and sustainable lifestyle change for Pacific communities; and,
- Build and strengthen relationships with a focus on Pacific families.
Eligibility
To be part of the LotuMoui Games Initiative you must:
- Be a church organisation
- Your church must be situated in the Counties-Manukau district
- The majority of your congregation is of Pacific descent
